Plastics

Our plastics are commonly used for various components due to them being lightweight, corrosion-resistant, impact-resistant, chemical-resistant, and durable.

Plastics

Acetal

Acetal is an engineering thermoplastic with high tensile strength, stiffness and fatigue endurance. It has a high resistance to moisture, organic solvents, and lubricants. Its stability is excellent and exhibits low friction and excellent abrasion resistance. Acetal retains much of its toughness through a broad temperature range. Acetal can be machined to create a high variety of parts and components.

ProtoSpace stocks both Copolymer Acetal and Delrin® (Homopolymer Acetal).

UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

UHMW is a versatile thermoplastic that is used in a wide variety of applications. It has high impact strength as well good wear and corrosion resistance. UHMW is an extremely tough plastic with low moisture absorption and steam permeability, along with low friction surface and good electrical properties. UHMW commonly used in many applications in industrial machinery, due to its durability and ability to hold up to heavy use.

ProtoSpace can machine UHMW Polyethylene to create a variety of parts and components, such as mounting blocks, bearings, guide rails, sprockets, starwheels, guide blocks and more.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is a translucent plastic that is lightweight and extremely durable.

Similar to acrylic, polycarbonate offers properties similar to glass, such as clarity, brilliance and translucence, but is lighter and has better impact resistance.

Polycarbonate is ideal for showcasing inner components and lighting within an electronic enclosure.

Polycarbonate requires UV treatment for outdoor use, in order to prevent yellowing.

Acrylic

Acrylic is a lightweight, high impact material with excellent transparency, and superior weatherability. It offers properties similar to glass such as clarity, brilliance and translucence, but is lighter and has better impact resistance. Acrylic is used on a regular basis with enclosure design, to provide clear windows into cases.
